A story made for your family

How to make a children's book with Lumi

You bring the idea; Lumi helps turn it into words and pictures. This guide explains the workflow for invited Magical Book Maker families, from planning a book to checking the finished pages.

1. Tell Lumi about your book

Start with who the book is for, their age and your story idea. Mention the language, the characters and anything you want included or avoided. You do not need a finished manuscript.

For example: ‘Make a picture book for a six-year-old about a shy dragon visiting the library. Keep the ending reassuring and the sentences short.’ Lumi may ask questions to help shape the plan.

2. Choose characters and a picture look

Describe each character or reuse one from your workspace. Choose a picture look that fits your story, such as watercolor or a playful cartoon style. A photo is optional, and you should only upload one you have permission to use.

Uploaded reference files are used for the request, not saved as book or chat attachments. A paused request may hold them temporarily in private storage for up to an hour. See the privacy policy for processing and service-provider details.

3. Shape the pages

Ask Lumi to help write and illustrate the story, then review the result page by page. You can change the wording, adjust the layout and request a new picture when something is wrong.

Creating pictures, characters and chat requests uses credits. Check the Credits page in your account for current costs. During early access, paid checkout is not open yet; contact support if you need help with access or credits.

4. Review, read and download

Check spelling, character consistency, text placement and age-appropriate content. If the book has two languages, review both. Open the PDF after downloading it and check that every page is legible.

Reading saved books and downloading their PDFs have no extra charge. You can print a PDF at home. In-app printed-book ordering is not open yet. Join the waitlist on our home page if you have not received an invitation.
